About ISAN

robin saville and antony ryan have been releasing music as isan since 1996. having recorded in the past for various labels (and whilst still enjoying the occasional dalliance) they now consider morr music to be their spiritual home.
now based in southend and reading respectively, robin and antony work separately from each other most of the time, communicating via post and internet. periodically notes are compared and directions noted, the end result is a hopefully coherent body of work for which the pair consider themselves jointly responsible.

the isan live experience has been in existence for a couple of years now. seemingly based around a large tangle of wires and an ever-growing collection of lucky cats, isan can occasionally be seen squinting into the lights around the uk and further afield.

well, it has been a long time. but it's not like we haven't been busy since we released 'lucky cat' back in 2001...

a whole new world opened up to us after we agreed to play at the sonar festival in barcelona in the summer of 2002. we'd managed to stick to our 'we-don't-play-live-because-we-don't-have-enough-hands' line for 6 years, but the temptation to have a long weekend in barca and our shiny new flightcases was enough to tempt us out into the sunshine. plus the fact that we agreed to the gig prior to rehearsing any songs turned out to be quite a strong incentive.

we've done a few gigs since then, and have also been busy with a few compilation releases and plenty of remixes - see the discography for full details. when we did finally sit down in june 2003 to compile the album, we surprised ourselves to find we'd accidently recorded twelve tracks that knitted together like a comfy old sweater.

titled 'meet next life' it represents a mild expansion of our sound in that it contains live percussion, bass and acoustic guitar and glockenspiel. live playing has put us in touch with a visceral component to our sound as well, although established listeners need not be afraid - the single digit melodies and other components of the isan world remain intact.
